Adding a project to TFS from TestComplete

TestComplete Online TrainingAs a TestComplete trainer I’ve found myself re-installing it a few times and I typically have to reconfigure my TFS connection. I’ve been asked about this a few times so I thought I’d write it down. Here are the steps to setup and add a TestComplete project to TFS.

  1. Select Tools | Issue Tracking | Connection Manager. This is usually the step I forget since it seems a bit odd to got to Issue Tracking when I want Source Control. Anyhoo…

    TestComplete Connection Manager

  2. Click Add…, provide a Connection name and select Visual Studio Team System:

    TestComplete Connection Wizard

  3. Click Next and specify the TFS URL and credentials:

     TestComplete Connection Wizard Team System

  4. At this point, you should see the status of the connection and the top-level projects from the TFS server:

     TestComplete Connection Wizard

  5. Now, from the Project Explorer you can right click your Project Suite and add it to the repository:

Adding a TestComplete Suite to TFS

And that as they say is it.

Are you using TFS? Do you use it in TestComplete?

  1. Hi Steve,
I tried to add TestComplete project into TFS following your procedure, but I had some problems. Here are my remarks (related to TestComplete version 7.10.475.7):
    – to be able to successfully connect to TFS server in steps 3 and 4 you must have installed Support for Visual Studio Issue-Tracking System TestComplete extension (can be select during TestComplete installation)
    – even if you successfully pass steps 1-4 you can still get (at least I got) in point 5 (after click on menu Add project suite) the empty dialog Select SCC Provider and I could not continue further.
    – so it seems that Steve’s procedure enables only reporting issues from TestComplete to TFS (not sure as I haven’t use it), but not check-in TestComplete project source into TFS
    – After installing Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider you can select this provider in Select SCC Provider dialog in step 5 and continue with checking TestComplete project source files into TFS to be version controlled.
    Kind regards,

  2. Could you please guide me where to get the file for "Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider" to be installed?
