Suggestions for a small office phone system

February 22 2008 6:54PM

The company I work for, Falafel Software, is moving offices in the next few weeks and is in the process of evaluating phone systems. I’m curious to know if anyone has any experience with a small business phone system, preferably VOIP, that’s cost effective and that you’d recommend? Falafel is looking something that has the basics, Voice Mail, automation for routing calls to different departments and separate lines for individual offices. The space has five offices and a conference room.

Btw, here is a map of the new location which is in Santa Cruz, CA and close to the beach which is great when your graphic designer has a calling to surf at lunch time!

You gotta love Santa Cruz!

Not sure that would fit your needs, but i thought it had some really cool features, incuding .net apis.

We're looking at the Microsoft ResponsePoint system. It's pretty inexpensive and nifty, and it's been getting some good reviews in the press.

Starts at about $2500.

We use Vocalocity (www.vocalocity.com) and are happy.  It's a hosted PBX system and seems to be flexible enough for just about any set-up including multiple offices.

Cheers, Steve

We use Altigen.  Might be a little overkill now, but if you plan on growing it'd be something to consider. http://www.altigen.com/
