Got two monitors, keyboards and mice? Try out Synergy

June 26 2006 3:57PM
Recently I got a new machine here at work and up to that point I was a single machine single monitor guy but, that's all changed. I sit next to Mark Edington and from the day he got dual monitors he's been telling me that I just don't know what I'm missing. I never really bought into that as I like to be a minimalist in terms of configuration to keep things simple. Well, I finally broke down and requested a second monitor so I now can see both my new machine and old machine at the same time (no more Remote Desktop).

Now the kicker... Shane Hausle who used to work here in QA once pointed out this software keyboard and mouse switch called Synergy. The Synergy web site description says it best:

Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

So, if you're in a similar situation I highly recommend you take a look at Synergy as it works great even on my Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro which has a row of additional buttons at the top of the keyboard for Volume browsing etc.
